Percussion Performance
Students will play percussion instruments in an
ensemble setting, learning percussion technique on
a variety of instruments. Students will read/write
rhythms, play in an ensemble, and have exposure
to hand and feet coordination exercises through
several song forms.
Curriculum:
Students will learn proper percussion technique on
some/all of the following: hand drums, conga
drums, bongo drums, Djembe, rattles, shakers,
drum set, snare drum, tom toms, cymbals, bass
drum, xylophone,orchestra bells, tambourine,
triangle, castanets and other accessory instruments.
Activities:
• warm ups
• beat and rhythm exercises
• musical rhythm games
• hand and feet coordination exercises
• reading basic rhythm notation
• rhythm dictation
Ensemble Study Students will:
• learn all the rhythm parts for each song
• apply the rhythms to an instrument in the ensemble
• rotate through all instruments in the ensemble
• learn/practice how to follow a conductor
• learn/practice how to start/stop a drum song with a
drum call
• learn/practice how to solo/improvise over a steady
beat
