
| Class Description: Students will play percussion instruments in an ensemble setting, learning percussion technique on a variety of instruments. Students will read/write rhythms, play in an ensemble, and have exposure to hand and feet coordination exercises through several song forms. Curriculum: Students will learn proper percussion technique on some/all of the following: hand drums, conga drums, bongo drums, Djembe, rattles, shakers, drum set, snare drum, tom toms, cymbals, bass drum, xylophone, orchestra bells, tambourine, triangle, castanets and other accessory instruments. Activities: •warm ups •beat and rhythm exercises •musical rhythm games •hand and feet coordination exercises •reading basic rhythm notation •rhythm dictation Ensemble Study Students will: •learn all the rhythm parts for each song •apply the rhythms to an instrument in the ensemble •rotate through all instruments in the ensemble •learn/practice how to follow a conductor •learn/practice how to start/stop a drum song with a drum call •learn/practice how to solo (improvise) over a steady beat |
